Bite into Bliss Farm Fresh Fare for Furry Friends
Welcome to the Furry Farm Rescue!
Rescue is a balance of very difficult and emotional trials countered with transformations and incredible humans matched with precious sentients. Percys story started with abuse and abandonment. He was found in a Christmas tote, dumped on the side of a county road, covered in feces and in severe malnutrition. His hocks had collapsed, and he weighed 28 pounds when he arrived in our care on October 24. Huge thanks to the human who found Percy and whisked him into Pet Emergency. When the shelter reached out for help, it was an instant yes.
Upon intake, we checked from blood to bowels and researched the best methods of reintroducing nutrition to a starvation patient. Percy was nursed back to health with our trusted vet partners, Dr Ruth at North Spokane Veterinary Clinic, Dr Laura with North East Washington Spay Neuter Alliance, and Dr Krista at Springwater.
With Percy eating 8 small meals a day, he went to work with me. His natural kind heart and sweet disposition swooned everyone. For the first few months, he ate and slept. Recovery and growing zapped him. Slowly he grew stronger, and around the New Year he started really playing with other dogs. From frail to rambunctious, we were on a good path.
Percys story grabbed Michelle and when he was ready, we transferred care to Michelle under our Foster to Adopt program, as we finished out his medical. Enrolled in Basic Obedience together, Percy and Michelle are learning together. Its no easy task to be a dog owner, let alone 130# dog owner. Having good manners is a requirement, not optional. Placement into Michelles loving home really completed his story.
Rehabilitation and medical treatment continues to be our focus in 2024, as we support our local shelters. Foster families are needed more than ever, while we help educate the community on spay and neuter. Not every foster needs as much effort as Percy, but every dog feels that love and second chance.
